YARPP Templates
I love the Yet Another Related Posts Plugin, it’s the most powerful related posts plugin I’ve ever used, and it has some cracking features, not least of which is being able to use custom templates to control exactly how your related posts are displayed.
As you regular readers will know, I wrote about a redesign recently, and said that I was going to be discussing how I achieved certain things on that design. Well instead of writing a tutorial, I’ve decided to release the template I use on the new design to display my related posts.
To view a demo, while the old design is still up, head to the demo page, where you will also find more template demos in the future.
The demos are purposefully bare so that you can add your own CSS to style it for your site. Make sure when you use the template to change the custom field value to pull the right image. You will also have to change the CSS to accommodate the size of your image.
You can download the first of the templates here: YARPP - Right Image (361)
I’d love to make more of these, so if there’s a certain way you’d like to see related posts displayed, drop me a comment, and I’ll see what I can do!

And where can I see your new YARPP template in action in the new site redesign?

Haha, a bit ironic! I’ve updated the tags on this post so that some actually show up. The images aren’t all there yet, but they will be soon!
Perhaps a bit tangential to the topic, but I thought you might know.
If I have YARPP installed, but would like the list of related posts displayed outside of the WordPress environment (another section of my website), what should the code look like?
For example, I have a photo gallery installed in a directory (/photos/) at the same level as my WordPress directory.
Thanks for your help,
Dan
Hm, I’m not sure if it would work. It relies on WordPress post information such as tags and categories for each individual post…but if a post’s ID can be passed, then maybe it would be possible. How would you want that to work, what would the related posts be in relation to?
Alex, thanks for hanging with me on this.
The scenario: I have a non-Wordpress photo page on my website, on which a list of tags are displayed (related to the photo, of course). I’d like to call YARPP on that page, pass to YARPP the list of tags and have YARPP return a list of related posts.
I know it’s possible to invoke WordPress functions outside of the WordPress environment. I would assume the same is true of WordPress plugin functions, including YARPP. I just don’t know how.
Any guidance is of course greatly appreciated.
I decided that the best person to ask about this was Mitcho himself, and this is the response I got:
So, it looks like it’s going to be a fair bit of work!
Thanks for the follow-up.
I think I understand what needs to be done. Unfortunately, it sounds a bit beyond my experience. Looks like I’ll need to hire someone for this.
I can’t seem to get the thumbnails to work. Any ideas?
m stilll playing with YARP,i guess m overwhelmed after getting so many options, guesss will use ur template
Great template !!
What I must modify to set the first thumbnail visible when the page finish the loading on the web browser?
Now when the page ended the loading, the template show the thumbnail of the last link of the related topics, Instead of the first thumbnail.
Thanks in advance
Hey,
Any chance you’ll be posting more templates/layouts for the YARPP?
Cheers!
I was hoping for more templates as well.. Thanks for the template provided in this post for YARPP.
Will try this sometime. Have you got any more templates in the mean time ?
I’ll try it, thanks for share
