Site Redesign Preview

I’ll shortly be updating my site with a completely new design, so before I do, here are some sneaky preview images.

The main things I wanted to remedy were the white on black issue and the way posts were displayed on the homepage. The new design is much cleaner, and I’m pleased with how everything is presented.

I’ve changed the logo from using Base 02 to Ballpark. Moving away from the grungy background meant I needed a crisp font to compliment the rest of the design. Ballpark is a font I’ve liked for a long time, so I’m glad to be able to use it here. I have also used the font as the site’s new default gravatar as you’ll see in the comment form below.

I wanted to be able to show a thumbnail for each post in the related posts section, but not have to have that thumbnail take up loads of space. I’ll be writing a tutorial on how I did this soon.

You’ll see when the site is live that the default gravatar updates once you have entered your email. Tutorial coming on that too.

And of course, credit to WordPress in the footer. I’ve become a fan of this sort of grey and this size of image, with colour added on roll-over. You’ll see that dotted around the site too.

I’m hoping to get the new design live within the next week or so, so subscribe to the RSS feed or follow me on twitter @epicalex to find out when its live.
