.toLowerCase should be .toLowerCase() I integrated this code into version 2.0 of my Gravatar Signup plugin! It puts a Gravatar signup checkbox in the comment form if you don't have a Gravatar. Upon submitting your comment, it'll sign you up (you'll get an e-mail from Gravatar to complete the signup flow).

Slight problem with your code: If the user mistypes the email, then the “You don’t have” message appears, but then fails to disappear when the email is changed again.

To solve this, in the load() section, you need to re-add the “hidden” class to #ajax_get_avatar.
